Batavia Rod & Gun Club was established in 1953 by a group of individuals who were hunting, fishing and shooting enthusiasts.  These individuals saw a need to provide a facility where people with similar interests could practice their marksmanship, whether on the rifle range or trap fields.

Initially, a modest clubhouse was built without indoor plumbing which necessitated the use of an outhouse.  As time passed, the clubhouse was renovated several times.  Indoor plumbing and a kitchen were constructed, all of which were completed by dedicated volunteers.

Over the course of many years, the Batavia Rod & Gun Club acquired additional land and made a number of improvements to its property to further its vision of providing a safe, family oriented facility where people could enjoy the shooting sports and their outdoor freedoms.

When Sporting Clays was gaining popularity in the United States, the Club’s Directors saw this newer shooting sport becoming as popular as skeet and trap.  Ultimately a Sporting Clay’s course was laid out on the diverse terrain of the Club’s property.  Initially, the Sporting Clays course had a limited number of stations with manual traps but as time progressed, many more stations were added to create the variety of target presentations shooters expected at a quality facility.  Today, the Sporting Clays course has become fully automated with manual traps used occasionally for tournaments.

Batavia Rod & Gun Club is open to the public for Sporting Clays each weekend.  The Club is a member of the National Sporting Clays Association and also hosts a number of events throughout the year.  In addition, there is a winter Sporting Clays league and a summer Trap league.  Visit the Events Calendar page for a detailed listing of open shooting dates and events.

Memberships are also available on a limited and sponsored basis.  Membership offers a shooter discounted target fees and other Club privileges.  Working members enjoy further discounts in exchange for volunteering their time at the Club.  For more information about memberships or questions in general, please click on the Contact Us tab.
